Confessions of a Book Blogger

I’m still fairly new to blogging. Do I love it? Yes. Can it be too much sometimes? Also, yes.

I feel a little burnt today – this feeling is something I did not expect to feel so early in the game. I expected this in a year or so. But here I am. Burnt like a piece of stale toast.

I only blame myself. I signed up for one too many ARC reviews, blog tours and cover reveals this month…so many I haven’t been able to read much of my ever growing TBR shelf. I focused a little too much time on trying to find ways to get more followers (FOLLOW ME!) than my own happiness which negates why I started my blog in the first place.

I started this blog for fun. To share with the world the wide range of books and authors that I love (romances with a side of thrillers and fiction)… So, here’s a lesson to all newbie book bloggers, DON’T LOSE SIGHT OF WHY YOU ARE BLOGGING. I assume seasoned bloggers already know this…but maybe that need a reminder today, too?

Also, LEARN TO BALANCE…..I love working with the PR firms, Netgalley and the indie authors. I like posting blog tours because it introduces readers to new authors. I have found new authors to love thru them (Hi Jennifer Woodhull! Hi, Traci Finlay!). I have been granted opportunities to promote the authors I already love, too (Here’s looking at you Emma Hart and Penny Reid). HOWEVER, I need to learn to balance my love of that with my own blog wishes and needs too.

So today, I’m going to take these lessons to heart and reflect a little so that come June or July I can balance ALL my loves better. (Side Note: May is already full of commitments so balancing will be harder….I’m a Capricorn. I can’t stand missing commitments.)

Bloggers….have you felt burnt or are you feeling burnt as well? Comment below or send encouraging words if you want….

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend…..I’ve got a few cover reveals on my Instagram coming to you today and tomorrow. I’ve got an Excerpt and a Chapter Reveal coming too!

Happy Reading!

Green Stack for Mental Health Awareness Month

Above is my green stack that I posted on Instagram in support of Mental Health.

May is Mental Health Month in the US and to raise awareness, many Bookstagrammers over on Instagram are posting a green stack of books to show their support and erase the stigma of mental health.

Did you know that one in five adults in the US experiences a mental illness in a given year? Did you know that one in five youth ages 13-18 experiences a severe mental health disorder some point in their lifetime? Kristen Fuller, MD wrote a wonderful article on Psychology Today discussing mental illness and this year’s campaign of Fitness #4MInd4Body. She gives a more entailed list of wellness tips and the steps you can take to cope. For more information, click HERE. 💚

Lastly and most important, Mental Health of America has a hotline for those in need: If you are or someone you know is in a crisis, please call 911, go to the nearest emergency room, text MHA to 741-741 or call 800-273-8255 for 24/7 support.

And remember: You are not alone. You matter. 💚

Listopia: Most Anticipated Romance Books of 2019

The Listopia on Goodreads almost always gets a chuckle or two from me. I have no idea as to why I find it so funny….It may have to do with the names of the lists or the fact that Harry Potter seems to make EVERY list (HP Fan here, no need to get defensive). It may have to do with the fact that I don’t recognize a good portion of the titles that make the lists (isn’t that wonderful?…all those books!). Or it may have to do with that fact that I love how 99% of the voters would go to battle fighting for their most beloved books (I know I would).

Here’s a list that I voted in yesterday: Most Anticipated Romance Books of 2019 and here are my votes:

  1. Beard Necessities (Winston Brothers #6) by Penny Reid – I am a huge Penny fan. I have read all of the Winston Brothers series with Beard Science being my favorite. Billy’s book has been A LONG TIME coming. I mean YEARS coming. I’m not sure I’m ready for it to be honest. The entire series has been setting up this book plus it is the last of the series…For me, it is the Most Anticipated Book of Any Genre of 2019 (No pressure, Penny!)
  2. Beard With Me (Winston Brother #5.5) by Penny Reid – See all the reason above plus it’s a prequel / novella to Beard Necessities. Can’t have one without the other….
  3. I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella – Although this has already been released, I am still anticipating it. As of today, I am #34 on 6 copies per my county’s library queue. That’s approximately 12 weeks out…..Anyways, I just love Sophie Kinsella and her dry sense of humor. She rarely disappoints.
  4. I withheld my 4th and 5th vote because it is only April and if anything new by Colleen Hoover or Mariana Zapata or Amy Harmon or Autumn Jones Lake comes out, I’m voting for it!

What about you? What are your most anticipated romances of 2019? Send me some comments!

Book Reviews, Bookish Sundries

We interrupt this program…..

Dear Reader –

Full disclosure: I’ve been quiet busy studying for a certification the past couple of weeks and it has cramped my reading. Cramped reading = less book reviews for the next week or so. Sheepishly, I’m a bit backed up. So I’m apologizing now for my lack of Book and ARC reviews. DO NOT WORRY. DO NOT PANIC.  There is a lot of good stuff coming your way!

In the meantime, there are A TON of new releases this week that I want to share with you.  Special thanks to all the authors who have granted me the pleasure of sharing them via Blog Tours. A lot of the blog tours include book excerpts, too. And if you like the blog tours, maybe I will start including them more often.

Ok, let me stop myself here before I start to just ramble or start telling corny book jokes (I read this book about Mount Everest. It was quite the cliff hanger….).  Therefore let me end by writing…..We have all been there….you know? SUPER BUSY…….Thank you for patience. And MOST IMPORTANTLY, thank you for reading my blog!  😊

P.S.  Did you know that I’m a bookstagrammer too?  Follow me on Instagram to see more on new releases.  Spread the word!
