Choose Me, an all-new standalone coming-of-age romance

by RC Boldt.

Wearing the nicest suit I own, I stand in the very back with a flask full of whiskey in my inner pocket. I put on a brave face as I watch her walk down the aisle.

Because it’s too late.

I refuse to be the bastard who makes her cry on her wedding day, but I’m dying to tell her what I’ve always known. She’s my best friend, but she doesn’t realize she owns my f*cking heart and soul, too.

Each step down that aisle takes her farther away from me and brings her closer to him, forcing me to face the truth: I’ve fallen in love with someone who can’t be mine. If she’d just turn around, maybe she’d realize I love her more than he ever could.

I won’t ruin her perfect day, but my broken heart begs me to try and convince her.

Choose me.

Review: I have read quite a few friends to lovers lately. It seems to be the theme for my Spring. Surprisingly, I’ve have enjoyed each Friend to Lovers story because each has had it’s own little story with a different setting, each has different obstacles / prejudices holding the MCs back from being more and each has a different ending. I never once felt like I was reading the same story over again.

Choose Me by RC Boldt is no different. At first as I was reading it, I had an inkling that I knew this story from somewhere. That it was similar to something…but I just couldn’t place it.  Then it hit me. Choose Me is basically the backstory to Thomas Rhett’s Marry Me music video and you know what? I loved it.

Choose Me is about an undying bond between two unlikely friends built in a tree house thru love and devotion and acceptance. Hollis and Magnolia both had mothers trying to keep them apart. Magnolia spent her life around people who did not accept her. But Hollis did.  He accepted her.  He became her support system.  He became her everything.  As she did for him.

Choose Me is a sweet, angsty, emotional friends to lover story that will hit your heart strings at the right time.

I startle at the male voice calling my name. When I turn, I find a guy about my height wearing a button-down shirt beneath a sport coat and a pair of pressed slacks. He regards me with a mixture of surprise and recognition while I have no idea who the hell he is. He steps closer with a smile.

“Sorry to catch you off guard,” he apologizes and holds out his hand to me. “Grant Stevenson.”

I shake his hand warily. “Hollis Barnes.” I pause before adding, “But somehow, you already knew that.”

He grins, and if I’m being completely honest, I don’t detect any douchebag vibes. “I recognized you from one of the photos Magnolia has in her room of the two of you.”

It takes all my control to suppress the jolt that zigzags through me at his words. She still keeps a photo of us?

His eyes crinkle at the corners, and he lifts his chin to gesture to me. “Although I have to be honest, the ink and beard initially threw me off.”

A surprised laugh escapes me, and I slide my hands into my pockets.

Grant steps closer and glances around before lowering his voice. “I’m actually glad you’re here. I know you and Magnolia haven’t seen one another in a while, but you’re her oldest friend…”

Oldest friend. Not best friend. I don’t miss the phrasing. Although I don’t feel it’s intentional, it cuts deep just the same.

“I’m nervous as hell, and I’m hopin’ you can tell me if she’d like this.”

It takes me a moment to realize what he’s pulled out of his pocket.

A velvet ring box and a packet of Pop Rocks.

Fuck, fuck, fuck.

I resist the urge to rub at the center of my chest, where searing pain radiates.

He flicks open the box to reveal a ring with a large diamond that’s fancy as hell. Something Mrs. Barton would love and deem appropriate. But Magnolia? Hell no.

“Her mom helped me pick it out.”

“And I know she loves Pop Rocks since she always has a pack.”

Not the strawberry flavor.

But he’s trying. I can see the nervousness in his expression. The hope. The excitement.

I can’t crush this guy. He’s exactly what her parents have always wanted for her. The kind of guy who doesn’t get his hands dirty. The one with money and connections.

The one who can give her the future her parents expect her to have. The one who won’t come home with rough hands, callused to hell and back from working on a project that’s for a high-end client or due to be auctioned off to a car collector with more money than they know what to do with.

The man who wears button-downs like they’re second skin. Designer clothes.

So caught up in my thoughts, I don’t immediately realize that he’s pocketed the items and is gazing in another direction. When I turn and follow his focus, catching sight of her weaving through the crowd, I take advantage of the moment and let my eyes drink her in. She’s…so goddamn beautiful.

Her long blond hair spills down her back, and even beneath the shapeless graduation gown, her sleek, tanned legs peek out from the bottom hem, her heels accentuating her toned calf muscles.

When she catches sight of Grant, her entire face lights up, and…goddammit.

I can’t do this. This was a fucking mistake. It’s like someone’s performing open heart surgery and just cracked my chest open without anesthesia.

“Whoa. Undeniable is one of my top reads! Sizzling chemistry, off the charts sexual tension and all the feels I’ve come to expect with a Melanie Harlow romance!”- Ilsa Madden-Mills, Wall Street Journal bestselling author

Undeniable, an all-new sexy standalone second chance romance from USA Today bestselling author Melanie Harlow, is available now!

Undeniable AMAZON.jpg

When we were eleven, Oliver Ford Pemberton dared me to jump off a barn roof. He said you couldn’t break a leg from a 12-foot-jump.

He lied.

(You can also break a collarbone, which served him right as far as I was concerned.)

I wish I could say it was the last dare I ever took from him, the last bet I ever made with him, the last time I ever trusted Oliver Ford Pemberton.

But it wasn’t.

Because he had the nerve to grow up gorgeous, charming, and sexy. And as we got older, the dares only got dirtier—and the betting stakes higher—until finally, he left me in pieces. I swore I’d never talk to him again.

But twenty years after I took that flying leap, he’s back in my life, daring me to risk everything for him: my job, my self-worth, and my heart.

How many chances does true love deserve?

Review:  Special thanks to Social Butterfly PR and Melanie Harlow for a copy of an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Undeniable by Melanie Harlow is a second chance romance between two life long friends.  The story is told through both characters’ perspectives in THEN and NOW scenarios. Melanie’s ability to write four different scenarios kinda blows me away.  You’ve got Chloe Then, Chloe Now, Oliver Then, Oliver Now.  Do you know how challenging that is?  I totally commend Melanie for this.  Not only does it assist the reader in establishing the plot but it also gives the reader a sense for what each person is thinking at a particular moment in time.  It really builds the story to be what it needs to be.

However,  Undeniable overall sort of fell flat for me.  Chloe caves to Oliver’s whims and schemes a little too easily in the Now situations.  And Oliver is just a tad bit spoiled throughout.

I read this book in one day but it was not because I was fully captivated by it.  I’m a moody reader.  If I’m captivated by a book, I normally have to take a break because of all the feels.  This book just didn’t do it for me.

Let me end on a good note….there are A LOT of  good reviews for Undeniable on Goodreads.  If you are debating on whether to read it or not, take a look at them, preferably ones without spoilers, to help make your decision.

Do you know what else may help you?  Scrolling down…There’s an excerpt waiting for you!

Fueled by pent-up lust and scotch, we stumbled into Oliver’s room and tore at each other’s clothes. It was hot and rough and a little bit violent, as if we were furious we hadn’t been able to keep our hands to ourselves and wanted to take it out on one another’s bodies. We pushed and pulled and growled and grasped. We called each other names and cursed viciously. We knocked over a lamp and ripped Oliver’s shirt.

When we finally exploded together, Oliver had me up against the door, and if our yelling didn’t wake the entire floor, then the pounding must have. I’d have bruises for days.

Afterward, we collapsed on the bed, naked and sweaty and exhausted.

“Oh my God,” I said. “I can’t believe we did that.”

“I know. Me either.”

“I think I pulled a muscle.”

“I think you bit me. Am I bleeding?”

I laughed. “No, but I hope you’re not seeing anyone. If you are, she’s going to wonder about all those scratches on your back.”

“I’m not seeing anyone.” He paused. “Are you?”

Neither of us moved for several minutes. When I caught myself falling asleep, I sat up. “I should go.”

“Why? Just stay here.”

I looked down at him. “You want me to stay?”

“Yeah.” He opened his eyes. In the low light, they almost looked black instead of blue. “Spend the night with me.”

I waited for it—the dirty joke, the excuse, the subtle dig—the reason he’d toss out for asking me to stay. It couldn’t just be that he wanted me here.

But he didn’t say anything more. He just reached out and covered my hand with his.

I looked at our hands for a moment, and a thousand memories came rushing back. Some good, some bad, but all us. I felt close to him, and I didn’t want to leave. “Okay. I’ll stay.”

“Good.” He took off his watch and put it on the nightstand.

One by one I’ll unlock all her secrets.
I love a challenge. And I’ve never followed the rules.
Now that she’s back in my life, she’s mine forever.
And anyone who hurts or threatens her better prepare to die.

Review: Zero Regret is the 13th installment of Autumn Jones Lake’s Lost Kings MC Series.  It is NOT a standalone.

It is, however, one wild ride.  Z, who just so happens to be one of my favorite MC members, is the ultimate alpha hero.  He protects what is his no matter the cost.  His loyalty makes me swoon like no other (well..except for Rock but that’s another story for another day).

Autumn Jones Lake’s Lost Kings Series is a wildly entertaining roller coaster that will play with your emotions starting with page one.  Her creative mind constantly keeps her readers guessing.  Although, a lot of open questions from Zero Tolerance are answered, the sneaky author added a few more questions that have yet to be resolved.  This book (the entire series actually) is so exciting, so addicting and so entertaining it will capture your attention for days.

She’d chosen to wear a red strapless dress that evening, one that barely covered her. It fell mid-thigh and didn’t leave much to the imagination. Truth was, I couldn’t care less what she wore. However, the skimpier her clothes, the more I had to deal with unwanted attention from the fuckers who’d be gawking at her, the ones who’d bravely approach. Or should I say stupidly approach her?

“Goddammit,” I mumbled, my long strides placing me right next to her in seconds. When I met my brother’s stare, he smirked, which only served to sour my mood. As we approached the front of the building, it was clear to see the club was popular, the line curling around the corner a dead giveaway. As we drew closer, I overheard people gasping then mumbling. They recognized Cara and Emily. So, not only was I going to be on high alert because we were going to be surrounded by a multitude of strangers, but I also had to deal with possible admirers of the women. And let’s face it, people were crazy, and some would do whatever it took to meet someone in the public eye. Cara didn’t have to give her name to the bouncer out front. He glanced from her to Emily to the rest our party, squinting at Owen and me before removing the classic red velvet rope to allow us inside.

“It’ll be fine, man. Don’t stress so much.” Owen slapped my back. “Nothing is gonna happen. Besides, I doubt we’ll even be here long enough for anything to pop off.”

“You’re not helping.” We’d only just arrived, and the fact we were going to be club hopping, as Cara had mentioned earlier on the ride here, already exhausted me. I was hoping they’d settle in and decide to spend the majority of their celebration in one place, eliminating multiple spots to God only knew where.

“You want a drink?”

“No. And you better not have one either.” Owen shook his head in what I could only assume was amusement.

“I know, you ass. I meant do you want some water or club soda or something like that.”

“Not right now.” I should’ve known my brother wouldn’t be so careless as to drink on the job. Although, truth was, we’d been on the job since the first day we’d arrived at the Dessoye residence, only partaking in a single shot to calm the nerves after the women had settled in for the evening.

Owen and I found a place to stand and keep watch over everyone in the party, particularly Cara and Emily. They were our responsibility, but because their friends were present, as well, we had to make sure nothing went down that would inadvertently affect them. The first hour passed without incident, everyone drinking in moderation and enjoying themselves. Well, everyone except me, of course. I swore people probably viewed me as some sort of statue, but I had to give off the perception of a serious guy, which I was, most of the time. Besides, this was my job, and there was no room for error. One slip could be catastrophic. I had to constantly be on my game, something I envied about Owen. Even while taking his post seriously, he looked like he was enjoying himself. I glanced around the club, observing all the other patrons. With so many people crammed into one space, I was surprised there wasn’t a fire-code violation. I had no idea why people wanted to spend their night bumping into others, spilling their drinks, and getting all sweaty in the process. I had other ideas of how to get all worked up, and it had nothing to do with grinding on unsuspecting strangers to the beat of the newest pop song.

As if she could read my suddenly dirty thoughts, my eyes caught Cara’s, and while she was in full conversation with Benji, laughing at something he said, his girlfriend and her best friend smiling right along with them, she locked her stare on me, her grin momentarily faltering. She waved the bartender closer, leaning over the bar to speak into his ear. The hem of her dress rose higher, and I swore if she moved any closer toward him, everyone would be able to see the bottom of her ass cheeks. I studied the interaction between the two of them and didn’t like the smug look on that bastard’s face. He leered at her when she pulled back, his eyes devouring her like he had a shot at fucking her. Which he most certainly did not, not while I was around. A sudden heat traveled through my body when he reached over the bar and pulled her back toward him, planting a kiss on her cheek as if it was the most normal thing to do to a patron. Then a thought dawned on me. Did he know her? Had she been here before? She lived in New York, but I highly doubted this was her first trip to the West Coast, especially since her parents owned a house here. She could very well be acquainted with the bartender. Hell, she could have slept with him, for all I knew. While his occupation didn’t seem like the type of person Cara would go for, I’d come to discover there was no rhythm or reason when it pertained to that woman. I completely forgot Owen was standing next to me, too involved with paying attention to the blatant flirtatious behavior between Cara and that man-bun-wearing shithead. So, his voice startled me.

“What’s the matter?” he asked, following my line of sight. I grunted in response, having no patience for words. “Stop being so paranoid, Ford. She’s fine. They all are.” He leaned against the wall, completely oblivious that I wasn’t worried about her well-being. Or rather, I was concerned about her welfare, but not because I thought someone was going to swoop in and snatch her up, but because I thought there was a great possibility that she’d try and leave with either that bartender douchebag or someone else entirely. Cara was young, gorgeous, and came from money. She wasn’t tied down to anyone, so she most certainly could hook up with whomever she wanted. I knew that. I truly believed in her right to do it. But something wasn’t sitting easy with me, and I couldn’t pinpoint what it was. While my rational thoughts should’ve prevailed, all I could focus on was getting her away from that guy and shielding her from anyone else who might take it upon themselves to walk up to her and start flirting. Was I overprotective? Was I just trying to prevent a situation before I had to jump into action and get involved? “Wait. Are you jealous she’s talking to that guy?” Owen’s voice annoyed me more than ever before, and it had nothing to do with his tone, but rather his question. An absurd one at that.

“Not a fucking chance.” My harsh reply gave everything away, making me come to grips with the fact that I was indeed jealous. Although, I couldn’t fathom why.

It’s not every day you have to return to your hometown to bind your borderline-poltergeist grandmother to the family property.

Unfortunately, today is that day for Avery Thorn.

All Avery wants is to report the binding to the Witch Council so she can fulfill her obligation, but finding a dead body and the Head of the Council on the brink of death isn’t in her plan.

Especially when she’s pegged as the number one suspect.

Now, it’s down to Avery and her cousins—and her sassy feline familiar—to figure out who tried to murder the Head of the Council. Magically bound to find the culprit, the last thing she needs is the new detective getting under her toes.

Unfortunately for her, she finds herself colliding with the hot cop more than she wants. And since her familiar hates him, it’s not always pleasant.

New magic and a devastating tragedy threaten to derail their investigations—but not quite as much as the person who isn’t happy they’re involved…

Review by Jennifer Mitchell, Bibliolater

Review:  Full disclosure:  I am not an expert when it comes to cozy mysteries.  It is a rare read for me; however, when this series was announced, I just knew it was for me.  Emma Hart as a romance writer makes my heart smile.  Emma Hart writing as cozy mystery writer, Evie Hart, does just the same.

Dangerous Magic is a mixed between Sabrina, Bewitched and Nancy Drew.  It is a light, innocent, funny and quirky read.  Evie’s writing has the perfect mixture of mystery, magic and laugh out loud moments that will keep in tune the entire time.

All the characters (there are A LOT) are peculiar yet lovable.  Avery Thorn, our MC is my sarcastic soul sister, yet it is Grandma Thorn who my heart loves the most.  I want to be her best friend.  And although the mystery is solved at the end and although this is not a romance (my heart can find romance anywhere), we are left with some sort of….love square (?)….between Avery, a broody detective, a hot werewolf and a handsome fairy.

Did I like this book?  Very much.  Would I read the next installment?  ABSOLUTELY.

PS – For the record, I’m #TeamDetective….

Grandma opened her mouth, but a red and gold flash darted through the window. It circled the kitchen before it came to settle on top of the fridge and showed the room its true form.

Aunt Rose’s familiar, Honey, a red and gold macaw with more attitude in one sharp toe than most Haven Lake residents had in their entire family.

She surveyed the room with her beady eyes before they came to rest on me. “Look what the cat dragged in.”

I’d always hated that bird. “My cat will eat you, you little—”

TJ coughed.

Silence fell over the room.

“The dirty creature would have to catch me first.” Honey followed that up with a bird noise and a flap of her wings.

Is that vile bird here? Snow sounded way too excited in my head, and I was feeling way too petty to lie to her.

On top of the fridge, I replied, digging into my pasta.

The next thing I knew, the sound of paws on the steps reverberated through the kitchen. I smirked as a flash of white launched itself at the fridge. Honey cawed and took flight, but I shrugged a shoulder in the direction of the open window, and it slammed shut seconds before she could make her escape.

Rose side-eyed me, while TJ grinned into his pasta.

Honey circled the room, flapping frantically, while Snow jumped onto any available surface in her pursuit of the bird.

Grandma surveyed the scene with barely disguised annoyance. “This place has gone downhill since my death,” she announced, straightening.

“You’ve gone downhill since your death,” Rose snapped.

“I heard that.”

“Good,” I added. “You were supposed to. She said it loud enough.”

And everyone I’ve ever loved.

Chapter Reveal:

“Thanks for meeting me here.”

“No problem,” I say, adjusting my seat at a table for two at a small coffee shop in Silverlake. It’s off the beaten path. Not crowded, it seems to be frequented by artsy young locals. Hipsters. The vibe is funky, filled with flea-market finds and local artwork, including, to my surprise, one of my husband’s abstract paintings. It’s definitely not the kind of place you’d expect to find one of Hollywood’s A-List actresses, Nicole Farrell.

Sitting across from me, she’s barely recognizable. Devoid of makeup, she’s wearing an oversized gray hoodie and a Dodgers baseball cap, which holds back her flaming red hair and partially obscures her face. Even without makeup, she’s stunning with her porcelain complexion, high cheekbones, full lips, and almond-shaped green eyes. In fact, she’s more exquisite in person than she is on the big screen.

Last month she won an Emmy for her portrayal of Gloria Steinem, the outspoken and daring twentieth century crusader for the rights of women. The critically acclaimed movie was a Netflix original. Nicole’s acceptance speech was exceptional. Moving. Heartfelt. Teary-eyed, she thanked the Television Academy and accepted the award on behalf of women everywhere, urging them to speak up and to fight for the respect they deserve.

She takes a sip of her piping hot coffee, then sets the cup down. I have no idea why she wanted to meet with me nor am I prepared for what she has to tell me.

“Skye, I’m a big fan of yours,” she says, her voice sincere. “Your piece last month on human trafficking was amazing.”

“Thanks,” I say humbly. “The feeling is mutual.”

She quirks a small, fleeting smile. “I need to get something off my chest…something I’ve been hiding.” Her voice is shaky, nothing like the confident actress who delivered her bold acceptance speech.

She takes a fortifying deep breath and then spits out the words: “I was sexually assaulted…by Sheldon Greenberg.”

At his name, I visibly jolt and feel my vocal chords shake. “That’s a serious accusation.”

She looks at me imploringly. “Please. You must believe me.”

“I do.” How could I not? Sheldon Greenberg, one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, lives in a dark, distant place of my mind. A suppressed memory I’ve tried to forget.

“Thank you. I came to you because I thought you would. And because I felt like I could trust you.”

“When did it happen?”

“Seven years ago. When I was twenty-three…”

Inwardly, I shudder. About the same time as me.

“I was auditioning for a recurring role on one of his Criminal Justice shows. He told me I got the part. Meghan Jones…the no-nonsense DA from The Bronx.”

I remember her on that series when I used to watch it. A standout character and performance. A woman after my own heart—fearless, ballsy, and self-confident in a tough male-dominated world. A perfect blend of grit and grace. Eager to hear more, I take a sip of my hot beverage as she continues.

“I was ecstatic as it was my first big television break. Then afterward, he told me he wanted to meet with me to talk about my career.”

All ears, I set my coffee cup down and reach into my backpack for my pocketsize recorder that I always carry with me. “Nicole, do you mind if I record this?”

“Please, I’d rather you wouldn’t.”

“Can I take notes?”

She nods. “Yes.”

My hand still in my bag, I fish for my small spiral notebook and a felt-tip pen. Slipping them out, I place them on the table, opening the notebook to a clean page. I remove the cap of the pen and put it to the lined paper.

“So what happened?” I ask.

Her eyes darken as she recalls the incident. “He asked me to meet him at the Chateau Marmont where he was staying. When I got there, I assumed he’d be at the restaurant, but he wasn’t anywhere in sight. So, I went to the front desk and inquired about his whereabouts. The clerk called up to his room and told me he was ordering room service and he was expecting me. So I took the elevator up. It was the penthouse suite.”

She takes another sip of her caffeinated beverage and I do the same. “I rang the bell and he came to the door. To my shock, he was wearing only a bathrobe. Despite my reservations, I accepted his invitation to share some champagne with him. Letting him lead me into the suite, I was taken aback by its size and grandeur. I was just an ingénue from Indiana and had no experience with Hollywood glitz and glamour.” She pauses. “Or Hollywood power.”

After another sip of her coffee, she perseveres. “He poured us each a glass of champagne and we toasted to my career.” Her face tenses. “Then, he told me I owed him.”

“Owed him?” I repeat back her words, my brows lifting.

“Let me see if I can repeat his exact words.” She makes air quotes with her fingers.

“‘Babe, I’m giving you the opportunity of a lifetime. Do you realize how many girls like you would kill to get a starring role on Criminal Justice?’” Nicole pauses, setting her hands down on the distressed wood table and giving me time to jot down her words.

“What did you say?” I ask, looking up at her.

“I merely shook my head and then he threatened me. ‘ Girls like you are a dime a dozen. If you’re not nice to me, I’ll recast the part.’”

Nice to him? The word nice doesn’t belong in the same sentence as the pig.

“Then, he untied his bathrobe.” She pauses again, her lips quivering. “He was wearing nothing underneath and had an erection.”

I remain speechless as tears form in the actress’s eyes. Genuine ones, not the kind you put on for show. “Then he shoved me down on the couch and forced himself on me.”

“Jesus. Did you try to fight him off?”

“I tried to free myself, but he was too big and powerful for me. And he was hurting me…groping my breasts…squeezing my nipples.”

The fucking sleazebag.

“The creep hiked up my skirt and ripped off my panties.” She blinks back tears. “And then he… r-raped me.”

As she begins to sob, I reach across the table and rest my hands on top of hers.

They’re as cold as ice and shaking.

“It’s okay,” I say softly. “Thank you for sharing your story.”

To myself, I say, “The sick bastard.”

Sniffling, she blots the tears that are running down her cheeks with a paper napkin. “I wish I’d come forward sooner, but I was afraid.”

“It’s better late than never. What made you reach out to me now?”

“The Emmy. When I accepted it, I felt like such a hypocrite. Here I was playing the part of a brave woman who stood up for herself and I was a silent victim. Sheldon was in the audience…the front row. I swear he was leering at me, taking credit for my success. And mentally undressing me. All I wanted to do was throw my Emmy at him and shout out what he’d done to me. I’m such a coward.” She bows her head in shame.

“No, Nicole, look at me.” Her head lifts slowly and she meets my gaze. “You’re very brave.” I squeeze her hands. “I mean that.”

“Skye, I’m not the only one he abused.”

My pulse pounding, I refrain from sharing my past. “There are more?”

“Yes. We have a kind of secret club. Not everyone got raped like me. But he forced himself on them, touching them in places he had no right to be and coercing them to perform other sexual acts against their will.”

She goes on to give me a list of names. A dozen in all. My initial shock gives way to abomination. Greenberg is a monster!

Her sobs subside. “Skye, I’ve come to you because I want to expose what he’s done to me and so many others.”

“You’ve come to the right person.” I shoot her a reassuring smile. Inside, I’m burning up with rage. “When I’m done with him, he’ll never work in this town again.”

“Thank you,” she mutters with a flash of a grateful smile. “He took a part of my soul that I can never get back. I don’t want more women to lose theirs.”

The check comes. I insist on picking up the bill, scribble down a few things, and then slam my notebook shut. My eyes flit to my husband’s painting, a mash-up of oils and garbage he aptly called Hollywood Trash. Sheldon would have worked too.

After all these years, I’m going to take the motherfucker down.

Time’s up.

About the Author:
Guess what!? I was one of the co-creators and original producers of the TV series, Power Rangers. I oversaw the first one-hundred classic episodes, and I wrote/co-wrote many of them. I know…it’s hard to believe I went from kids’ shows to erotic romances, but I did. It’s a long story and if you meet me at a book signing, I’ll tell you everything.

So today, my alter-ego, Nelle L’Amour, is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who lives in Los Angeles with her Prince Charming-ish husband, twin college-bound princesses, and a bevy of royal pain-in-the-butt pets. A former executive in both the entertainment and toy industrues with a prestigious Humanitas Prize for promoting human dignity and freedom to my credit, I gave up playing with Barbies a long time ago, but I still enjoy playing with toys with my hubby. While I write in my PJs, I love to get dressed up and pretend I’m Hollywood royalty. My steamy stories feature characters that will make you laugh, cry, and swoon and stay in your heart forever. And they’re often inspired by my past life.

Why would he? It’s not like she’s going to tell him. After all, she’s short and awkward, and as he’s fond of reminding her, has a sour disposition.

When Elle takes off on her annual ten-day vacation with her family, Noah comes to a startling realization. She’s the woman who is by his side day in and day out, whose office is across the hall, and whose house is around the corner. She has called him on his shit when he gets too cocky, and he has held her in her arms when her heart was broken. Absence must make the heart grow fonder because while she’s in Germany with her parents, he realizes that everything he has ever wanted was right there all along. Now he’s on a mission to make her realize that romance won’t ruin their friendship, but platonic friendship is ruining their relationship.

Exclusive Excerpt:

I walk down the hall, and turn the corner into my room to find, to my shock and dismay, a wall of dripping wet muscle standing at the foot of my bed, toweling himself off.

I gasp, clutching my palm to the bare spot on my chest between the cups of my bra—thankfully, a t-shirt model that offers at least a little coverage. Hearing me, he turns, holding the towel just so that the most critical information is unavailable.

“Hey, you’re home!”

Noah takes three long strides toward me and leans forward to hug me. I put my palm out and it lands firmly in the middle of his perfect, muscular chest.

“You’re naked! You can’t hug me naked! It’s weird!” I exclaim.

“You’re naked too!” He argues, wrapping the towel around his waist and folding it into a not-very-secure-looking knot at the side.

I silently will the knot to fail and expose the only bit of Noah Adler that I’ve never seen, but sadly I still have not developed telekinetic powers, so nothing happens.

“There, better?” He asks, palms up.

He doesn’t give me a chance to answer and instead wraps thick, muscular forearms and defined biceps around me as he pulls me into his sculpted torso.

“I missed you!” He says, laying his cheek against the top of my head.

I wrap my arms around his midsection and look up as I give him a squeeze, carefully jutting my ass out so my belly doesn’t make contact with what I imagine is a sizable and delicious member beneath the towel he’s barely wearing.

“I missed you too. You should’ve come with us,” I say, closing my eyes as I do a happy dance on the inside because he came to see me after all.

“I’m not a Bailey. No Bailey family adventures for me,” he laughs. “But I am going to need you to tell me every detail, Ariel.”

I squirm away from him. “Well, that didn’t take long. I’m over missing you now.”
