Feature Book Review of the Month

You'll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey: Crazy Stories about RacismYou’ll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey: Crazy Stories about Racism by Amber Ruffin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Reading is my self-care which is why I rarely read nonfiction unless it’s a true crime. Sometimes though, a book like You’ll Never Believe What Happens To Lacey comes along where the synopsis simply intrigues me.

I will NEVER regret the day I picked up this book. This book is SUPER real. Although Lacey and Amber use humor to make all of their points (their banter is hilarious), their experiences are absolutely heartbreaking. And the fact that Black people face situations like this DAILY is so disturbing. There is a chapter where Lacey and Amber discuss their experiences at JC Penney (JCP!!!) and that entire chapter sat with me for days. In fact, You’ll Never Believer What Happened to Lacey has not left my mind yet. It’s real. It’s raw. And EVERYONE, EVERYONE, EVERYONE needs to read it.

Finlay Donovan Is Killing ItFinlay Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cosimano
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Thank you Minotaur Books for the advanced copy!

You know that feeling when you need a super fun, lighter read to spruce up your mood or to ease your mind? Well, Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cosimano is that kind of book, my friends!

Finlay Donovan Is Killing It is wildly entertaining, funny and charming. I feel Finlay’s struggles as a mom myself. It may look like us moms have our lives together but half of the time we don’t even know what day it is. Finlay is both quirky and quite frankly, a hot mess. But she’s also tenacious and does whatever she needs to do to keep her family together.

Plus, Elle Cosimano thought of the plot in PANERA of all places. PANERA. It doesn’t get any better than that.

I recommend this book to readers who:
* Love novels written by Janet Evanovich especially her Stephanie Plum series
* Want that deliciously soapy plot that includes murder and mystery and a little love
* For mothers who want to feel seen and laugh about it

Not For Me But Maybe It’s For You

The Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting: It’s a cute second chance romance but kind of irked me due to the characters’ immaturities. My Rating: 3.5 Stars | FULL REVIEW

Too Good To Be True by Carola Lovering: I despise love triangles. And this one is probably one of the most disturbing and darkest love triangles I have read…ever. My Rating: 3 Stars | FULL REVIEW

The Bookworm’s Guide to Flirting by Emma Hart: Emma Hart is one of my favorites but even my favorites have an off book. It’s a cute roommates, slow burn with steam. My Rating: 3.5 Stars | FULL REVIEW

Rating TBD

A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas: I am still processing my thoughts on this one. After 757 pages, I think I have the right to do so. I will my full review soon. Until then, there are a lot of triggers in this book so be mindful before you read it. My Rating: ? Stars
