Important Announcement

Where have I been? I haven’t posted for a few days and you may be wondering why. My silence is NOT because I am neutral with the US’s current events and Black Lives Matter. It’s been quite the opposite really.

The truth is…..I’ve been listening. And learning. And reflecting. And praying. I signed petitions to stop racial injustice. I retweeted or liked resources on Twitter. I spent time sharing book recommendations and book lists and posts from black bookstagrammers and black authors in my Instagram stories to support the fight against racism. I listened to THEIR stories…so many excellent stories. I also talked to one of my dear friends and told her I was there for her….ALWAYS.

But the fight is far from over, reader. There is so much to do. One of the best ways for me is to use my platform which is BOOKS. I LOVE BOOKS. Physical books. Ebooks. Audio books. Fiction books. Nonfiction books. BOOKS.

And that is what I will do. Here’s how:

  1. Read more nonfiction books like White Fragility and Stamped, just to name a few and share them. Maybe not so much rate them but use them to start a conversation or to influence you to read them too. ⁣
  2. Diversify my reading, book reviews, audio listens and book features to include more BIPOC books. My reading is real white. I am not afraid to admit that. ⁣
  3. Be conscientious of the books/authors I actually purchase during the month. I have a small budget (and a cranky hubby that says we have too many books) but I can still do my part. ⁣

These changes are just a START. I will continue to reflect and come up with creative ways to share. These changes will not be an overnight process either. This will be a continuous lifetime process. ⁣

I originally shared this plan on Instagram. There were a lot of great suggestions by other bloggers, too. So now it is your turn. If you have more ways or ideas, let me know. I’m all EARS!⁣

Before You Go…..

I encourage you to EDUCATE yourself, too.

If you don’t have the funds, get your hands on books from the library. Use that Libby App. Support black authors and all BIPOC authors by reading their work. If you don’t like nonfiction, that’s OK! You can still support by reading fiction. There is no right way to read.

For nonfiction readers: is offering Stamped from the Beginning: A Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America by Ibram X. Kendi for $4.99 USD for the month of June! You do NOT have to be a member to get that price.

And for those who cannot concentrate on a book right now: Just Mercy is available RENT FREE in the US for the month of June on most streaming services. For more details, check out their INSTAGRAM post.

  1. I hate that people are pressuring others to speak up. It’s wrong. Everyone processes things in their own way.
And thank you for posting this without including pressure to support BLM. I’m seeing a lot of that in the bookish community, but they are doing more than fighting systemic racism. They are a political party. And people are using a man’s death to shame people into supporting that political party. Thank you for not using your platform to do the same ❤
