With Halloween around the corner and the ghosts and ghouls ready to spook, why not get into the spirit by reading a few Halloween tales? Below is a mini book list with a couple of bone chilling reads just for you. Don’t have the time to read? Is your TBR pile already too high? Don’t worry. The Haunting of Hill House | Shirley Jackson
Nothing will spook you more than Hill House. A horror story set in a creepy old haunting house with ghosts is perfectly horrific for this time of year.
Don’t have time for the book: Watch The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix. It is so freaking good. I was absolutely enthralled with the mini series last October and cannot wait for the next season airing some time in 2020.
The Shining | Stephen King
This classic from Stephen King will forever be with me. Freaky little girls. A complete and utter psychopath. A chilling hotel. And the weird little boy who constantly says “Redrum”. You can’t get any more in the spirit of Halloween with this one.
Don’t have time for the book: Watch the movie. Jack Nicholson is at his finest, Reader. And although it was made in 1980, the creep and horror factor is still alive. Added bonus: Doctor Sleep, the sequel to The Shining (also a book), is coming to theaters near you in November.
The Whisper Man | Alex North
I’m in a buddy read this month over on Instagram for this book. Although I have not posted an official review YET (it will be posted by the end of the month), I can tell you that it is all sorts of creepy. I get chills just thinking about the story. You are just going to have to trust me on this one. Go read it.
Don’t have time for the book: There is no movie or adaptation yet but I sure hope there will be some day. “If you leave a door half open, soon you’ll hear the whispers spoken….”
Fluffing chills., Reader…….fluffing chills.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina | Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a comic book series that takes a dark, intriguing twist when it comes to Sabrina the Teenage Witch. You may think you already know the story but these comics take it to another level.
Added Bonus: If you don’t want to read the comic version of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Sarah Rees Brennan has started a YA series with Book One – The Season of the Witch – and Book Two – Daughter of Chaos – both available.
Don’t have time for the book: The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a Netflix Original. I binged watched this show in a matter of two days. The spooky, creepy feel of it drew me in. But it is actually Sabrina, her powers and the edgy story lines that kept me around.
Hope you enjoyed this short and simple book list. There still lots of time to get in the ghoulish mood for Halloween.
