I recently asked the question on Instagram – How do you get over a book hangover? – which is essentially the same as a reading slump. There were a lot of good ideas that mostly centered around books. But it got me thinking…..what can one do to get out of a reading slump? Therefore, I present to you….
25 WAYS TO GET OUT OF A READING SLUMP
Reread one of your favorite books.
Switch to a different genre and go extreme. For example, if a romance gives me a book hangover because of ALL THE FEELS, I read a thriller.
Get some sleep. Bookworms have the tendency to stay up late reading. Use the slump to catch up on some ZZZZ’s.
Have a one person dance party….Alexa, play Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
Take a walk or exercise.
Binge watch shows on Netflix or Hulu.
Go to the movies.
Find a new podcasts (My Favorite Murder is excellent. So is Lore and This American Life and just about 10,000 others).
Volunteer at a local animal shelter. Who knows? You may end up with a new pet.
Troll the internet but don’t become an Internet Troll.
Shop online for FUNKO Pops or bookish items like a book sleeve from Novel Nuzzler or bookmarks or book pins from your favorite Etsy shop.
Find some blogs to read…lifestyle blogs, travel blogs, book blogs, fandoms.
Learn to bake a pie or a cake or brownies or cookies or cinnamon rolls…FROM SCRATCH.
Cook a meal… There are a ton of cookbooks out there. Skinnytaste cookbooks are my favorite.
Seasonally decorate your house.
Pin on Pinterest.
Spend time with your friends or family or your pets. Or all of them.
Get a cup of coffee or tea at your local coffee shop and people watch. Just don’t be creepy about it.
Take pictures or engage on Instagram.
Facebook stalk people. Don’t laugh. You know what I mean. Need to check up on that ex of yours or an old boyfriend or girlfriend? Well, here’s your time.
Go down the rabbit hole that is Reddit (love you, Reddit!).
Take up a new hobby: photography, knitting, crocheting, tennis, running, scrap booking, fishing, gardening, internet trolling (just kidding).
Learn something….learn about blogging or bees or dinosaurs. Learn about global warming or the 2020 presidential race or why Lebron James tried to trademark Taco Tuesday.
Self care! Take a bath, get a manicure/pedicure, meditate, relax.
Read lists like this (😉).
I could go on and on with this list. The point is…..Don’t let that book slump get you down. We have all been there. Do one…. or ten… of these items and you should be back to reading in no time.
